GENEVA AMATEUR OPERATIC SOCIETY - GAOS

The Society was founded in 1971 by a small group of enthusiasts and is now the largest amateur musical-theatre group on the Continent, with more than 300 members.

GAOS usually puts on three major stage productions each year in or near Geneva - a winter production (usually a traditional English pantomime), an operetta or musical comedy in March or April, and a summer show, such as a Music Hall, cabaret or revue, in June.

In addition, they present two or three Musical Evenings each year, at which vocal and instrumental numbers are followed by selections from a musical comedy or operetta. The GAOS Choral Group often performs at these evenings as well as giving two or three independent concerts during the year.

GAOS organises occasional seminars on various aspects of theatre technique, as well as various social events.

This is a non-profit-making society and its members receive no payment. GAOS covers its costs solely be selling tickets for its productions, and makes substantial contributions to many charitable organisations, mostly local.
