Broadcast for Sunday 13 February 2005
Well, hello and good evening from Howard Hornfeld and Sue Lloyd - here in the Radio 74 studios. There’s not quite so much this coming week as there was last week - but still a few things to tell you about. Be sure to have a pencil and paper handy to note down anything you might wish to.
First, though, a bit of “chat” … we spoke about the GEDS production “MY IRISH PAL” last week and how much it had raised for charity. This play - written by GEDS member Chuck Slovenski will, in fact, be the GEDs entry for the FEATS festival this year - to take place in Hamburg on 13-16 May. If you would be interested in going along and joining the group, sitting with GEDS supporters, please contact Neil-Jon Morphy - email [email protected]. People are expected to make their own travel and hotel arrangements, but several hotels will have special “FEATS” rates on offer until the end of March. Neil-Jon can give you information about this - or you can get it by logging into www.feats.org/2005/hamburghotels.htm.
Tuesday 15 February GEDS has its mailing party for “ART” (the next full stage production) from 18h00 at the Scout Centre - it involves a couple of hours work, gently watered and fed, as a reward for turning up and helping ! The Scout Centre is just off the rue de Carouge - No. 5 rue Pre Jerome is the address. GEDS suggest that if you are going by car, the best car park would be the Migros underground car park (access in rue Dancet). By tram, take either the 12 or the 13 and alight at the Place des Augustins.
Tuesday 22 February Look out for another GEDS playreading evening - this time the play will be “BURN THIS” by Lanford Wilson, arranged by Neil-Jon Morphy. The play centres on the personal crisis of Anna, a rising downtown dancer/choreographer and the men in her life. It is described as drama - but any dramatic GEDS evening has a bar near to hand to help stand the strain, so fear not! It does sound a very interesting play. As always, it will be in the English Church Hall, rue du Mont Blanc. It will start at 20h00. (doors open at 19h30). There is a cash bar (already mentioned) and entrance is free to members and just CHF 5.- for non members.
And now --- GEDS is calling all directors of plays. The 2005/2006 season is already being planned and would love to receive offers of plays in order to be able to choose a good, balanced season. So - are you sitting out there with some experience of directing and wondering whether or not to do it again? Get in touch with GEDS chairman Catherine Harari (tel. +33 450 41 17 77) or with Neil-Jon Morphy (+41 22 329 44 56) - those are both home telephone numbers. Similarly, if you would like to arrange a playreading - now is the moment to do something about it - notably to contact either Tim Hancox (home tel. +41 22 733 37 87) or Jenny Buffle (home tel. +41 22 776 48 37) - they will be delighted to hear from you.
And GAOS is calling for producers for its 2005 pantomime to announce themselves by 31 March. Contact Rodney Gill, GAOS Chairman on home tel. number +41 22 369 25 15 or email him at [email protected]. He, too, will be delighted to hear from you!
Now - let’s leave the amateur world for a moment and talk to someone deeply involved in the professional world of theatre --- which, after all, is one of the things which keeps us amateurs “at it”
A big welcome to Francois Rochaix, Director of the Theatre de Carouge …
INTERVIEW WITH FRANCOIS ROCHAIX
And so, once again, we come to the end of the show. We’ll look forward to being back with you again next week - same time - same place. Until then, therefore, all the best from us all at Theatre in English.
