AN IDEAL HUSBAND, by Oscar Wilde
Sir Robert Chiltern is a successful politician, wealthy, influential and adored by his idealistic, beautiful and morally unimpeachable young wife. The unexpected appearance at a glittering reception in his London home of another beautiful, though less virtuous woman, threatens to destroy either his public career or his private happiness. In “An Ideal Husband” Oscar Wilde confronts us with the real moral dilemma facing a man placed on a pedestal by the one he loves, while entertaining us with his ironic observation of the superficial values of London society at the turn of the last century. This is Wilde at his glittering best, witty, epigrammatic but at heart very human and moving, a dramatic comedy not to be missed!
